When AVIF needs a JPG copy
AVIF compresses photos efficiently and is supported in current browsers, but many desktop programs, CMS uploads, and messaging apps still expect JPG. Conversion is useful when a file is rejected or cannot be previewed.
Keep the original AVIF if you may need the smaller source later. Create a JPG only for the destination that cannot open AVIF.
Frequently asked questions
Will the JPG look identical to the AVIF?
It should look close at the default quality, but JPG is a different lossy codec. Fine textures may change slightly.
Does this convert animated AVIF?
No. The converter produces a single still JPG from the image the browser can decode.
Why can some old software open JPG but not AVIF?
JPG has been a default photo format for decades. AVIF is newer, so older viewers and printers often lack a decoder.
