When to convert HEIC to JPG

Apple devices often save photos as HEIC because it stores high-quality images in less space. Many older editors, upload forms, and Windows applications still expect JPG, so conversion is useful when a HEIC file is rejected or cannot be previewed.

JPG prioritizes compatibility over the newer features of the original container. Keep the HEIC source if you may need its metadata, original compression, or Live Photo information later.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so re-encoding can introduce a small quality loss. The default setting favors a visually close result while keeping the file practical to share.

Does the JPG keep my Live Photo?

No. A JPG contains one still image and cannot store the motion or audio portion of a Live Photo.

Why does conversion take longer the first time?

Browsers do not decode HEIC natively. Labmorf loads the HEIC decoder only when you start the first conversion, which keeps the initial page lightweight.
