Convert to

JPEG as input, AVIF as output

JPEG is still the universal photo interchange format. AVIF is a strong delivery target when you control the CDN or site and want smaller files at similar visual quality.

This tool cannot restore detail removed by earlier JPEG compression. Start from the highest-quality JPG you have, and keep a lossless original when possible.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the first conversion slower?

Browsers cannot encode AVIF with the built-in canvas encoder used for JPG and WebP. Labmorf loads a WASM encoder only when you start converting.

Will AVIF be smaller than the JPG?

Often yes for photographs, but tiny or heavily compressed JPGs may not shrink much. Size depends on image content and quality settings.

Does AVIF support transparency from JPG?

No. Standard JPG files are opaque. The AVIF output is opaque as well.
